Compassionate Outreach & Community Engagement
Rosedale United Church is a center that supports human flourishing in our neighbourhood, our city, and beyond. Through compassionate practical support, community partnerships, Truth and Reconciliation initiatives, refugee sponsorship, and interfaith dialogue, Rosedale United Church seeks to nurture dignity, justice, understanding and human flourishing within our broader community.
Our compassionate outreach work is guided by the Social Ministries Council (SMC), which helps identify areas of need and supports programs that address homelessness and under-housing, food insecurity, newcomer settlement, Indigenous reconciliation, and community connection. Some initiatives involve hands-on volunteer engagement, while others are supported through dedicated outreach funding and partnerships with organizations working on the front lines of social change.
We believe meaningful change happens when people come together in relationship with one another. Whether preparing meals, sponsoring refugees, collecting winter clothing, supporting women moving into stable housing, building friendships across cultures, or fostering dialogue between faith communities, our goal is the same: to create a world where human life can flourish!
Our Outreach Programs
Saint Luke's United Church Partnership
As a House of Friendship partner, we support Saint Luke's Out of the Cold meal program, clothing bank, and refugee support initiatives through volunteer service, financial contributions, and community engagement. Learn more about meal preparation, volunteer opportunities, and the impact of this ongoing partnership.
Truth and Reconciliation – Gibimishkaadimin
As a founding partner of Gibimishkaadimin ("Travelling Together by Boat"), we support a unique program that brings Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth together through outdoor leadership experiences, Indigenous cultural learning, and lasting friendships.
Refugee Sponsorship
For many years, Rosedale United Church has assisted families seeking to sponsor relatives to Canada through the Refugee Sponsorship Program of the United Church of Canada. We continue to provide guidance and administrative support to families navigating the sponsorship process.
Warm Coat Drive
Each year, our community collects and distributes hundreds of winter coats and warm clothing items to help Toronto's most vulnerable stay safe during the coldest months of the year.
Welcome Baskets
Through our Welcome Basket program, volunteers assemble household essentials for women transitioning from shelters into stable housing, helping create a sense of comfort, dignity, and belonging in their new homes.
In addition to these programs, the Social Ministries Council provides financial support to a range of organizations whose work aligns with our outreach priorities, including initiatives focused on Indigenous health and wellbeing, community health care, restorative justice, housing, refugee support, and poverty reduction.
Interfaith Outreach
Compassionate outreach also includes building bridges of understanding across faiths, cultures, and communities. Through Interfaith Bridge, we bring people together for respectful dialogue, learning, and relationship-building that strengthens the social fabric of our city.
