About United Church of Canada

The United Church of Canada is the largest Protestant denomination in the country, serving over one million people in nearly 2,500 congregations from coast to coast. The United Church was inaugurated on June 10, 1925, in Toronto, Ontario. It was formed through a historic union of the Methodist Church in Canada, the Congregational Union of Canada, and the Presbyterian Church in Canada. This was the first church union in the world to cross historic denominational lines, and it received international recognition for its vision and courage. Today, the United Church of Canada continues to grow in its commitment to love God, to follow Jesus, and to state our faith (as we wrote in our 1940 Statement of Faith) "afresh in terms of the though of [our] own age and with the emphasis [our] age needs."  The call and vision of the United Church of Canada is to deep spirituality, bold discipleship, and daring justice. Our commitment to following Jesus encourages us to embrace diversity, inclusivity, and commitment to justice, carrying forward the vision of unity and shared faith that began a century ago.

Our Call

These three pillars shape who we are and how we live. We strive to nurture a vibrant spirituality, to follow Jesus courageously in love and service, and to take up justice in every sphere of life
