Welcome Baskets

Helping Women Make a Fresh Start

Since 2020, Rosedale United Church has participated in the Welcome Basket program, a compassionate outreach initiative that supports women moving from city-run shelters into stable, longer-term housing.

Each December, our congregation and community partners assemble approximately 10 Welcome Baskets filled with practical household essentials to help women establish their new homes. While moving into permanent housing is an important milestone, many women are starting over with very few possessions. These baskets provide both practical support and a warm reminder that a caring community is cheering them on as they begin a new chapter.

Rosedale United Church coordinates the December basket delivery, while other North Toronto churches support the program throughout the rest of the year.

What's Included?

Each Welcome Basket is thoughtfully assembled with items that help transform a new apartment into a comfortable and functional home. Contents may vary, but often include:

  • Kitchen supplies
  • Dishware and utensils
  • Towels and linens
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Personal care items
  • Basic household necessities

The baskets are delivered directly to women transitioning from shelters into permanent housing through our community partners.

How You Can Help

There are several ways to participate in the Welcome Basket program.

Sponsor a Basket

Families, friends, neighbours, workplaces, and community groups can sponsor a complete basket or share the cost with others.

Donate Household Items

Many of the items included in the baskets can be donated individually and combined with other contributions to create a complete basket.

Volunteer

Volunteers assist with organizing, assembling, and delivering baskets each December.

Make a Financial Donation

Financial donations help purchase essential items needed to complete baskets and ensure that every recipient receives a thoughtful and practical collection of household necessities.

Financial Donations and Tax Receipts

Financial donations may be made by cheque payable to Rosedale United Church or by e-transfer to churchoffice@rosedaleunited.org. Please indicate "Welcome Baskets" in the memo or message field. To receive a charitable tax receipt for eligible donations of $25 or more, please include your name, mailing address, and email address with your donation so that we can prepare your receipt accurately.
