Saint Luke’s United Church

We continue to support St Luke’s United Church as a House of Friendship – helping to grow its Out of the Cold meals program, clothing bank and the African Centre for Refugees, which provides support to LGBTQ+ refugees. Through SMC allocations and Holly Berry Fair proceeds, we funded more than 8,300 hot, nourishing meals to those in need throughout 2024

Beyond financial support, our community comes together regularly to prepare sandwiches and volunteer at Saint Luke’s Out of the Cold program to directly provide meals and nourishment:

Sandwich-making: Make 200 sandwiches per week as a Rosedale team one Sunday per month

Clothing Donations and Distribution: Volunteers to help sort clothing donations at Saint Luke’s and/or distribute clothing to front-line organizations on specific days.

Out of the Cold Meal Service Volunteer Shifts: Saint Luke’s Meal Program operates on Sundays and Wednesdays:

  • Prep shift from 1 to 3 p.m.: heating meals, bagging cutlery and getting things organized for the serving shift
  • Serving shift from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m., with volunteers needed on Sundays
  • Drivers to bring meals to encampments and clients of overdose prevention sites. New volunteers are asked to work a few shifts in the church first and are then partnered with an experienced volunteer. Having your own vehicle is beneficial but not essential. On Wednesday mornings from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., drivers are needed to transport donated meals from George Brown College to Saint Luke’s.
