We have a rich tradition of compassionate community outreach through our Social Ministries Council (SMC) and remain committed to doing what we can to alleviate structural and systemic inequities.

In response to significant needs in the city, SMC continues to focus on homelessness and underhousing, food security, Truth and Reconciliation and refugee supports through compassionate outreach funds and hands-on engagement with organizations and programs whose work addresses these priorities.

Other recent SMC allocations include:

Anishnawbe Health

Street Health

Restorative Justice Housing Ontario

Dominion Church International Refugee Supports

Warm Winter Coat Drive

Each year, we rally our community to donate winter coats and warm clothing to help protect Toronto’s most vulnerable during the coldest months. Our goal is to donate at least 500 coats to people who are homeless or precariously housed — and thanks to incredible generosity, we surpassed that goal in 2024. Nearly 600 coats and countless other warm essentials were distributed through Saint Luke’s clothing bank and community partners, bringing warmth and comfort to those in need.

Welcome Basket

A compassionate program designed to support women as they move from city-run shelters into more stable, longer-term housing, thoughtfully assembled baskets are filled with essential household items and necessities, helping to create a sense of comfort and stability as women move into their new homes. By easing these transitions, the Welcome Baskets help address immediate practical needs and foster a sense of dignity and belonging along the journey to independence.
