DESCRIPTION:Book Club is a welcoming\, low-pressure space for anyone who lo
ves a good story and friendly conversation. We meet once a month on a Mond
ay to share our thoughts on a wide variety of engaging reads. This year\,
we’re exploring the works of many Canadian authors\, including fiction\,
  memoirs\, history\, and other thought-provoking literary non-fiction. \n\
nThere’s no expectation to attend every meeting - join when you can! And
if life gets in the way and you haven’t finished the book\, you’re st
ill more than welcome to come and take part in the discussion. Our meeting
s are relaxed and collaborative\, with everyone invited to share insights\
 , ask questions\, or simply listen. \n\nWhether you’re a lifelong reader
or just looking for a reason to read more\, the Rosedale Centre Book Club
is a great way to connect with others\, discover new authors\, and be par
t of a warm and welcoming community. \n\nIf you have an questions reach ou
t to Caroline Duncanson at cduncanson@sympatico.ca\nThis month's book is T
he Correspondent by Virginia Evans.\nFilled with knowledge that only comes
from a life fully lived\, The Correspondent is a gem of a novel about t
he power of finding solace in literature and connection with people we mig
ht never meet in person. It is about the hubris of youth and the wisdom of
old age\, and the mistakes and acts of kindness that occur during a lifet
ime.\n\nSybil Van Antwerp has throughout her life used letters to make sen
se of the world and her place in it. Most mornings\, around half past ten\
, Sybil sits down to write letters—to her brother\, to her best friend\,
to the president of the university who will not allow her to audit a clas
s she desperately wants to take\, to Joan Didion and Larry McMurtry to tel
l them what she thinks of their latest books\, and to one person to whom s
he writes often yet never sends the letter.\n\nSybil expects her world to
 go on as it always has—a mother\, grandmother\, wife\, divorcee\, distin
guished lawyer\, she has lived a very full life. But when letters from som
eone in her past force her to examine one of the most painful periods of h
er life\, she realizes that the letter she has been writing over the years
needs to be read and that she cannot move forward until she finds it in h
 er heart to offer forgiveness.
