DESCRIPTION:Book Club is a welcoming\, low-pressure space for anyone who lo
ves a good story and friendly conversation. We meet once a month on a Mond
ay to share our thoughts on a wide variety of engaging reads. This year\,
we’re exploring the works of Canadian authors\, including fiction\, memo
 irs\, history\, and other thought-provoking literary non-fiction.\nThere
’s no expectation to attend every meeting - join when you can! And if li
fe gets in the way and you haven’t finished the book\, you’re still mo
re than welcome to come and take part in the discussion. Our meetings are
relaxed and collaborative\, with everyone invited to share insights\, ask
questions\, or simply listen.\nWhether you’re a lifelong reader or just
looking for a reason to read more\, the Rosedale Centre Book Club is a gre
at way to connect with others\, discover new authors\, and be part of a wa
rm and welcoming community.\nIf you have an questions reach out to Carolin
e Duncanson at cduncanson@sympatico.ca\nThis month's book is Run Towards
the Danger by Sarah Polley:\n"Sarah Polley's work as an actor\, screenwrit
er\, and director is celebrated for its honesty\, complexity\, and deep hu
manity. She brings all those qualities\, along with her exquisite storytel
ling chops\, to these six essays. Each one captures a piece of Polley's li
fe as she remembers it\, while at the same time examining the fallibility
of memory\, the mutability of reality in the mind\, and the possibility of
experiencing the past anew\, as the person she is now but was not then. A
s Polley writes\, the past and present are in a "reciprocal pressure dance
."\n\nPolley contemplates stories from her own life ranging from stage fri
ght to high-risk childbirth to endangerment and more. After struggling wit
h the aftermath of a concussion\, Polley met a specialist who gave her who
lly new advice: to recover from a traumatic injury\, she had to retrain he
r mind to strength by charging towards the very activities that triggered
her symptoms. With riveting clarity\, she shows the power of applying that
same advice to other areas of her life in order to find a path forward\,
a way through. Rather than live in a protective crouch\, she had to run to
wards the danger.\n\nIn this extraordinary book\, Polley explores what it
is to live in one's body\, in a constant state of becoming\, learning\, an
 d changing."
